Faculty guidelines for authorship in scientific publications

An imminent question during preparation of a research manuscript is who can be mentioned on the paper as an author/co-author. You will find general information on this topic on the UGhent website. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences supports the recommendations regarding authorship in scientific publications put forward by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). While stressing the importance of these guidelines, the Faculty acknowledges that certain situations may arise in which not all of these recommendations can be followed.

The agreements about authorship must always be made before the start of the writing. Are you thinking about writing a new research manuscript? Definitely read the research tip ‘Authorship: 10 best practices’.

In case of questions or complaints concerning authorship in scientific publications you can contact one of the faculty points of contact: prof. Guy Joos (Research Director) and prof. Patrick Calders (Ombudsperson Doctoral Committee).
