About Biomaterials

The biomaterials group has a long standing experience in calcium phosphate chemistry serving as a basis for studies of mineralisation processes of hard tissues and calcifications as well as of degradable polymers used as scaffolds for hard tissue regeneration.

The group is also active in the development and optimization of cements based on calcium phosphates, silicates and degradable glasses (e.g. glass polyalkenoate cements) for the restoration of tooth enamel, dentine or bone. Chemical, physical and mechanical properties of biomaterials, in particular ceramics, are evaluated on a routine basis.
