Commencement and Matriculation Ceremony 2019

(23-08-2019) On August 23, 2019 the yearly Commencement and Matriculation Ceremony was held at Ghent University Global Campus.

Five years have passed since the establishment of the extended campus in South Korea. In those years the student population at Ghent University Global Campus has rapidly increased. We now count 435 bachelor level students, 21 doctoral students and the figures continue to rise. The Ghent University Global Campus journey is far from accomplished. Many ambitions remain to be fulfilled in the years to come.

Rector Rik Van de Walle from the home campus in Belgium attended the meaningful ceremony and honorably participated in conferment of degree for the GUGC graduates and badge ceremony for Fall semester freshmen.

“Dear graduates and freshmen, for both of you a new adventure is about to begin. Don’t forget to always dare to aim higher and to make a difference, for yourself and the world!” - Rector Rik Van de Walle

In addition to graduates and freshmen, their parents, professors, current GUGC students the ceremony was attended by Lee Won-jae, commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone and Andre Nothomb of Solvay Asia Pacific. GUGC Deputy President Taejun Han also delivered his welcoming and farewell remarks and professor Stephen Depuydt, GUGC Education Director gave a warmhearted congratulatory speech for all graduating students.

After the Commencement and Matriculation Ceremony the official launch of the Ghent University Alumni Chapter in South Korea took place. The goal of this alumni chapter is to engage our alumni and their friends to build and strengthen relationships and networks and foster their commitment to Ghent University.
