Chemistry is a science independent of human values; molecules do what they do. Green(er) chemistry shifts that and introduces human values into chemistry. Additional account for the need for a circular economy drives the evolution forward to sustainable chemistry. This lecture introduces this evolution and reflects its implementation in the chemical sciences and in the chemical industries. In particular, the commons and differences of Green Chemistry on the one hand and Sustainable Chemistry on the other hand as well as their interrelation will be explained and demonstrated on many examples.
