Assistance to research applications

The faculty wants to guide you as closely as possible in (and prepare for) the various mandate and project applications  (FWO, VLAIO, BOF, H2020, HEU, ...) and participates in the Ghent University Funding Academy (UGrant).

Contact points

The faculty strives for each department to appoint a policy officer research. This person is your first point of contact for all kinds of things such as:

  • new calls
  • more info and regulatory issues w.r.t. these calls
  • reviewing research proposals
  • contacts with DOZA, DFIN, front officers

Currently, the following colleagues have been appointed as research policy officer:

General information

Guidance per call

  • Make sure you are aware of calls/calls in a timely manner. Subscribe to BOZI for this
  • The Ghent University's Research Department (DOZA) regularly organises targeted information sessions. These are also announced via BOZI
  • Follow any additional sessions organised by the faculty, by CULT committees or by departments. These are announced via the faculty calendar
  • Interview training is given for prospective aspirants and prospective postdoctoral researchers at the FWO who make it to the second round

Data Management Plan

Finance and budget planning

Contact the front officer of your department in good time (already at the time of the preparation of your budget):

Your front officer can help you with:

  • estimation of staff costs (fellows, predocs, postdocs, administrative staff, etc.)
  • regular expenses (travel expenses, participation in conferences, publication costs, purchase of computers and equipment, etc.)
  • VAT issues
  • overhead issues
  • etc.

IT, hardware en software

The faculty IT service also helps you to apply for research projects: IT needs are assessed in a timely manner, from a sufficiently broad perspective, and are budgeted accurately. When necessary, the researchers are referred to the appropriate agency or possible external partners. Read more about it support at the faculty..

Have your proposal read

Have your research proposal read by several people in advance. Think of your supervisor, members of your research group and the research policy officer of your department, and/or make use of one of the following possibilities:

  • Those who submit to Cult-1 can have their postdoc or predoc proposal read in advance. Proposals can be sent up to a month before the due date to Ludovic De Cuypere, who then distributes them to a reading committee.
  • Those who submit to Cult-2 can have their postdoc or predoc proposal read in advance by Elizabeth Amann,  Gert Buelens or (for literary themes) Elke Gilson. Deadline for postdoctoral proposals is November 15. Deadline for predoc proposals is February 15.
  • Those who submit to Cult-3 can have their postdoc or predoc proposal read in advance by Philippe Crombé,  Steven Vanderputten,  Eric Vanhaute, Peter Van Nuffelen,  Stefan Meysman  or Julie Van Bogaert. Deadline for postdoctoral proposals is November 21. Deadline for predoc proposals is February 15.
  • Those who submit to Cult-4 can have their postdoc or predoc proposal read in advance by Ann Heirman  or Peter Van Nuffelen. Deadline is one week before the due date at the FWO.
  • Those who submit to Cult-5 can have their postdoc or predoc proposal read in advance by Gertrudis Van de Vijver. Deadline is one week before the due date at the FWO.
  • Candidates from the Department of Translation, Interpretation and Communication can also have their research proposals read by Bart Defrancq  or Kristof De Leemans.
