Symposium “The Object(ive) of the Humanities: objectivity, politics and knowledge production”

Paul Kurtz and Christian Hoekema, together with colleagues from the philosophy department and Doctoral School (UGent) organise a summer school: “The Object(ive) of the Humanities: objectivity, politics and knowledge production”. While the projects within the humanities deal with different historical moments and situate in different disciplines, the discussions often revolved around the object of humanities – its method, its aims, its knowledge production. Questions like: What is the object—and the objective—of study within the humanities? What do scholars in the humanities actually do, and what drives their work? What do the concepts we work with allow us to state? Questions all humanities scholars sooner or later deal with. Given the current political climate, these questions are only becoming more urgent. The summer school aims to revisit these core questions of the humanities and offer a platform for pre- and postdoc researchers from different disciplines. The event takes place from the 14th till the 18th of September in Ghent (Belgium).
