Prof. Dr. Rita Swanepoel joins S:PAM for short-term research stay

Prof. Dr. Rita Swanepoel will be joining us at Ghent University – research center S:PAM (Studies in Performing Arts & Media) for a short-term research residency for the period 1 Oct. 2017 – 30 Oct. 2017.

Swanepoel is professor and research director at the North West University in South Africa. She is director of the research group Visual Narratives and Creative Outputs. Her research is focused on art philosophy and critical art theory, with emphasis on Neo-Marxism and postcolonial critical theory regarding identity issues such as das Nichtidentische (the other/otherness) as portrayed in creative outputs. She is currently working on a research project in collaboration with Polish researcher Dr Anna Szyjkowska-Piotrowska, Chair of Humanities at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland. The project focuses on the experiences of women artists during, inter alia, Apartheid in South Africa and communism in Poland.
