The Choreopolitics of Alain Platel: how a dramaturgy of stuttering evokes the response-ability of the spectator to become a with-ness.

Abstract

On the occasion of the new book publication – The Choreopolitics of Alain Platel: emotions, gestures and politics, edited by Prof. Christel Stalpaert and the dramaturges Hildegard De Vuyst and Guy Cools, the latter will have his own contribution to the book on ‘a dramaturgy of stuttering’ dialogue with some of the other authors.

The lecture will focus on how a dramaturgy of stuttering (Christel Stalpaert) uses alterkinetic movements (Kélina Gotman) in works such as pitié! (2008) and Out of Context – For Pina (2010), inviting the spectators to become with-nesses (Ann Cooper Albright) and take up their response-ability in a shared ‘ethics of care’.
