Dr. Timmy De Laet

Short biography

Timmy De Laet is a postdoctoral researcher who received his PhD from the University of Antwerp, with a dissertation titled “Re-inventing the Past: Strategies of Re-enactment in European Contemporary Dance.” Timmy had an actor’s training at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, graduated in Theatre Studies at the University of Antwerp, and studied Dance Theory at the Freie Universität Berlin. In 2016-17, Timmy is joining Ghent University, as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Art History, Musicology and Theatre Studies and S:PAM – Studies in Performing Arts & Media. As a member of the Research Centre for Visual Poetics at the University of Antwerp, he is also working on the research project “The Didascalic Imagination” (funded by FWO – Research Foundation Flanders), which examines creative processes in contemporary performing arts. Timmy is a member of the editorial boards of FORUM+ and Documenta. He has published in journals such as Performance ResearchTanz, and Muséologies, as well as in the edited collections Bewegung Lesen/Bewegung Schreiben (2012), Performing Memory in Art and Popular Culture (2013), Moments: A History of Performance in 10 Acts (2013), and The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Reenactment (forthcoming). He was awarded the Routledge Prize for excellent research paper at the PSi#17 conference in Utrecht.
