Content information

Starting level:
You have a basic knowledge of English grammar, but you still encounter problems writing and speaking fluently and correctly in English.
To test your knowledge, you have to take a placement test.

Objective:
At the end of this course the students will be able to process and write short academic texts. The lessons are built up around typical structures and common expressions from scientific texts (e.g. graphs, objects or describing experiments). They mainly emphasize the relevant grammatical items necessary to understand these texts. Another important goal is to acquire a broad scientific vocabulary based on the Academic Word List.

Content:
The basic grammatical structures are revised and expanded and new scientific terminology from different disciplines is introduced. The introduced structures and expressions used and practiced in scientific contexts. The classes also use texts to place the structures in a concrete context. Furthermore, self-study tasks and writing assignments are offered to individually process the course material.
