Content information

Starting level:

  • You already feel quite at ease in French
    • When you speak, you feel rather at ease, although you would like to become more fluent.
    • When French-speaking persons are talking, you understand what is being said, even when they speak quickly.
    • Reading general texts in French is not a problem.
    • Writing French texts is somewhat harder.
  • You don't have many opportunities to practise French, but you do need thorough control of French (for work, training,...)
  • You use the "subjonctif", but you still have doubts about its correct usage.
  • It is required that you take the brief online test before enrolling. Please find this general orientation test in the list of French tests. During the first class session your teacher will evaluate if the result of the online test may be confirmed. If you are referred to a different level at that stage you can enter that level on condition that sufficient places are still available.

Content:

  • Listening skills: only authentic audio is used; that way you can familiarise yourself with the rhythm of French speaking persons.
  • Speaking skills: various speaking exercises are practised (face à face, travail en groupes, discussion de classe). The main aim is always to practise new expressions and structures in real-life situations. There is also an individual assignment, during which each student presents a theme of his/her choosing (work or training-related, current affairs, …) followed by a group discussion.
  • Reading skills: only authentic texts are used: that way you can familiarise yourself with the type of texts that you are likely to encounter in your work or training setting.
  • Writing skills: new structures and expressions are practised in special exercises. This aspect is mainly set during homework assignments. Some examples: to be able to present somebody following an interview, continuing a story in the past tense, presenting an opinion, using the "subjonctif".
  • Specific grammar items: the use of past tenses, agreement of the participe passé of pronominal verbs, the passive, reported speech, use of the "subjonctif".
