Content information

Starting level: You will be asked to do a placement test: this will provide the teacher with information about the attainability of the course (level, progression…). For students with a very good knowledge of Dutch no previous knowledge or skills are required, due to the close connection between German and Dutch. However, for candidates with a limited knowledge a starting level of German is necessary.

  • Listening skills: class dialogues as well as language laboratory classes contain a lot of materials which make you acquainted with the German language.
  • Speaking skills: conversation and interaction are an essential part of the course. New grammatical items are taught and further practised within a communicative context. The emphasis is put on the acquisition of daily speech acts (giving directions, introducing oneself, inviting somebody, …).
  • Reading skills: in the first level simple, everyday authentic texts are read. They enable you to acquire new structures and vocabulary, but they also lead to simple conversations.
  • Writing skills: at the end of the course you are able to write short and simple letters. You can also fill out forms with personal information.
