Enrol: first semester courses online and on site.

(21-08-2020) Ghent University aims for a partial return to “on-campus” face-to-face instruction in the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021.

First semester:

Ghent University aims for a partial return to “on-campus” face-to-face instruction in the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021. Teaching in covid-safe surroundings spread over the available space is prioritized in this plan.

The UCT will deploy a combination of on-campus classes in smaller groups, supervised distance learning and online interaction. We want to fully exploit the advantages of these three approaches. The teaching method depends on the type of course; for example, “Dutch for speakers of other languages level 1” (daytime course) will be entirely organized on campus, while “Practical Italian level 2” (evening course) will mostly take place online and “English for Written Academic Purposes” is fully taught online. An overview can be found here.

All classes – both in face-to-face interaction and in a digital classroom – will take place in real time. Our objective stays the same: qualitative language education provided by driven experienced teachers.

The digital University Language Centre

The past few months we have switched to online teaching for all our courses. Our lecturers mastered this new medium, much to the satisfaction of our course participants. From the first semester onward the UCT will offer a combination of online and on campus classes. We guarantee an interactive approach with ample individual feedback.

  • Breakout rooms allow switching between plenary discussions and speaking exercises in smaller groups.
  • A shared screen acts as an alternative smartboard.
  • Raising questions or sharing concise remarks is possible thanks to a chat function.
  • Polls efficiently check how the group feels about a certain topic.

In short, these and other functionalities ensure a varied, dynamic approach to improving language proficiency in our digital modules.
