MaSiWEC project highlighted in interview with PES Wind

(14-10-2019) MaSiWEC project highlighted in interview with PES Wind.

In an interview with Power & Energy Solutions (PES) Wind, the enormous collaborative efforts towards research, development and innovation in the field of offshore wind energy within Flanders has been highlighted. The Innovative Business Network (IBN) Offshore Energy plays a crucial role in this collaborative ecosystem and Metals at Ghent University is one of the key partners of this IBN. In that respect, the MaSiWEC project has been highlighted in the interview. At Ghent University, Metals professors Stijn Hertelé,  Wim De Waele and Roumen Petrov join forces with colleagues at VUB, Sirris and NREL in the US to explore the field of WEC-issues (white edge cracking). This problem can be found in large wind turbine bearings and the focus lies in the early detection of this potential problem, based on monitoring and smart data-analytics. The project aims at a cost reduction of wind energy by development of innovative methodologies to better understand premature bearing failures and predicting such failures well in advance.
