Old school text messages don't profit anymore

In an article about old school text messages, Prof. dr. Lieven De Marez stated that if old school text messages disappear no one would care, because there are plenty of other messaging apps. "Text messages used to be a dairy cow, because operators earned per message sent. Now, thousands of text messages are included in your subscription". The business model of messaging apps, like WhatsApp,  is to hold the attention of it's user for as long as possible. Most of the time more then one message is sent. It's more a series of chat messages and in the meantime people stay on their device. Time in which they can be exposed to ads. This new system can be a win-win for both messaging app companies and the operators.
