REPORT – CS Barometer: 1 out of 9 companies victim of cyber attack

(30-05-2022)

Researchers from imec-mict-UGent collaborated on the CS Barometer, which was commissioned by the Department of Economy, Science, and Innovation. This CS Barometer maps the maturity of Cybersecurity (CS) in Flemish businesses.

Although the majority of Flemish businesses take some measures to protect themselves against cyber-attacks, the findings suggest that the maturity of CS is rather limited. A substantial proportion of businesses lacks expertise and skills, and has no structured plan to adequately respond to cyber security incidents.

Although larger businesses are more often victim of a cyber attack (26,8% compared to the average of 11,8%), smaller businesses suffer from a more severe operational impact when being attacked. This is mainly because CS maturity of smaller businesses is significantly weaker than larger businesses.
