Jasmien Vervaeke obtained the degree of Master in the Experimental and Theoretical Psychology in July 2013 at Ghent University. She did an internship at the department of Data Analysis from September 2012 till March 2013, where she used simulations to investigate which mixed models yielded acceptable Type I error rates under multiple conditions.
In her master’s thesis, the influence of watching a 2D vs. a 3D movie on the estimation of distances was tested. Jasmien also checked for a correlation between interhemispheric communication and the degree of perceiving stereoscopic 3D with active shutter glasses.
Since August 2013, she worked as a junior researcher at mict and conducted experimental research into the quality of experience of stereoscopic 3D, multi-viewpoint images, 360 degrees videos and augmented reality, amongst others.
As of January 2016 she works as a PhD student for the Psychopathology and Affective Neuroscience Lab at Ghent University with Prof. Ernst Koster as promotor and mict Prof. Jan Van Looy as co-promotor. There, she is developing a gamified tool that is aimed at diagnosing and training cognitive control impairments in remitted depressed patients, in order to prevent them from having a relapse. More about this project can be read on the PrevenD project page.
