Professor Giuseppe Danilo Norata will explain his work on the function of cholesterol homeostasis in dendritic cells and its role in immunity.

Professor Giuseppe Danilo Norata (Department of Pharmacological and Biomolecular Sciences, University of Milan, Italy) is our guest speaker. More information on his talk: Cholesterol homeostasis plays a pivotal role in immune cell’s physiology. Myeloid produced apolipoprotein E (ApoE) is a key modulator of dendritic cell (DC) antigen presentation function and adaptive immunity. Specifically, ApoE deficiency leads to the accumulation of cholesterol in lipid rafts in the cell membrane of dendritic cells resulting in enhanced antigen presentation via MHC-II and T cell activation which is independent of systemic hypercholesterolaemia.
