On 3 December the creative writing student society Prometheus organizes 'Connected by Blood', a reading marathon on the figure of the vampire.

In collaboration with Ghent University’s English Literature section, vampiric tales such as The Vampyre, Fragment of a Novel, Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula will be read aloud.

Numerous professors, researchers, students, and other literature enthusiasts will read aloud for about fifteen minutes each. Rector Rik Van de Walle will open the reading marathon with a passage from Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, a novel that represents many students’ first literary encounter with the vampire figure. Following him is dean Gita Deneckere. Vice-rector Mieke Van Herreweghe will also make an appearance, as will Ghent alderman Mieke Van Hecke and pro-dean Marc Boone. To complete the reading marathon, the winning ghost story from Prometheus’s creative writing competition will be presented at 9 p.m. For the full reading schedule, please consult the Facebook page.

Many side-activities will accompany the reading marathon!

This event is open to all vampire and literature enthusiasts!
