Prof. Vanessa Vermeirssen (Ghent University) will present her work on integrated regulatory networks from worm and plant to human.

Regulatory networks are a valuable tool to map in an intuitive manner and at a systems level the molecular interactions that direct gene regulation and to enable the discovery of previously undefined connections between biological processes and genes. Network inference has been primarily based on expression profiles and is known to benefit from different computational approaches on the one hand and additional data types on the other hand. Technological advancements in high-throughput molecular analysis have led to a wealth of different omics data that allow for the characterization of integrated regulatory networks. Integrated regulatory networks can generate robust biological hypotheses of gene regulation in multicellular eukaryotes and predict biological functions for unknown genes.
I will present my work on integrated regulatory networks from worm and plant to human, specifically highlighting network inference benchmarking, module and motif detection, and data integration.
