Sepsis and the role of the metabolism during sepsis will be discussed as well as possibilities for therapeutic intervention.

Professor Claude Libert (VIB Center for Inflammation Research, Department of Biomedical molecular biology, Ghent University) is our guest speaker.

More information on his talk:
I will give an overview of the major research theme of my group, which is sepsis. The problem with sepsis is huge as it kills 8 million people each year, among which 3 million children, worldwide. There is certainly a degree of inflammation in sepsis, but the major pathways involved in the lethal response in sepsis, to our opinion, are metabolic pathways that go wrong. I will focus on our hypothesis and our studies on glucocorticoids and free fatty acids in sepsis and how we believe we can therapeutically interfere.
