Korte beschrijving

This doctoral dissertation explores the dynamics of the European Cash-in-Transit (CIT) sector, a niche in the private security industry vulnerable to crime. It examines CIT regulation and practices in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the European Cross-border Regulation, identifying patterns and evaluating crime prevention strategies. The study uses routine activity theory and situational crime prevention principles to assess their applicability in the CIT context. The European Commission’s attempt at regulatory harmonisation through Regulation (EU) No. 1214/2011 is discussed, highlighting challenges from national regulations. The conclusion synthesises case study findings, offering a situation crime prevention framework for CIT at national and European level, providing insights for policymakers, law enforcement, and industry stakeholders.
