Korte beschrijving
With the internet literally at their fingertips, children engage in sexting with peers and consume online pornography. This evolving reality confronts law and policy with the challenge of balancing the protection of children from harm with respect for their (sexual) autonomy within a rapidly developing online environment that continuously reshapes their needs and competences. The dissertation examines how sexting between children and the consumption of online pornography by children can be regulated in a way that balances their autonomy with protection against harm. It adopts a children’s rights perspective, grounded in the full spectrum of children’s rights, and places particular emphasis on two key interpretative principles enshrined in the UN CRC: the best interests and the evolving capacities of the child.
