How can we capitalise upon immunologic homeostasis in the therapeutic context in the coming decade?

This lecture is part of the Interdisciplinary Medical & Health Seminars Guest speaker: Prof. Iain McInnes (Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom).

Immune mediated and inflammatory diseases comprise a major imposition upon society across the age spectrum. Our new challenge is to achieve remission in these diseases that is long lasting and eventually defined as ‘cure’. Using inflammatory arthritis as an exemplar prof. McInnes shall discuss the current approaches to management of immune mediated inflammatory diseases to highlight our unmet needs and thereafter discuss the rapidly evolving data that are now informing what remission might comprise at the molecular level. This begs the really exciting question – how can we capitalise upon immunologic homeostasis in the therapeutic context in the coming decade?
