Focusing on patient-centred health care: patients are more involved in decisions about their health and medical care. But what about the research?

This lecture is part of the Interdisciplinary Medical & Health Seminars. Guest speaker: prof. Claire Collins (Irish College of General Practitioners, Dublin, Ireland)

Focusing on patient-centred health care means that patients are more involved in decisions about their health and medical care. But has this same occurred in medical and health sciences research? Can patients truly participate in decisions about their care if they are not involved in the research that informs those decisions? What are the barriers (real and imagined)? In this talk, this will be explored further, particularly in relation to those on the fringes of our society.
