The IOF-fellow Cell & Tissue Engineering will be a central person in the platform who will support the researchers and business development managers. In this role you will:

  • Organize monthly meetings with Business Developers and Steering Committee.
  • Identify and map relevant research within UGent/UZGent in order to build, manage and grow a valuable organisation-wide portfolio.
  • Screen patent opportunities.
  • Organize internal network events and brainstorm meetings as well as external industrial partnering events.
  • Monitor initiatives and new funding calls in the field.
  • Pro-actively inform the research community and business units about relevant market information and funding opportunities
  • Stimulate, coordinate and actively take part in grant writing of European, VLAIO, IOF or other innovation oriented funding channels.
  • Build and consolidate an industrial network and support interactions with industrial partners


  • A PhD or at least 5 years of equivalent experience in applied scientific research or strategic basic research.
  • A scientific background in life sciences/biotechnology/biomedical sciences/biology.
  • Experience in domain of cell and tissue engineering is an asset.
  • Experience with the project writing and management.
  • Broad technical and interpersonal skills to coordinate collaborations between teams with different technical/scientific background.
  • Good communication and writing skills (at least Dutch and English) • Being able to work accurate, independently as well as in team is essential.
  • Dynamic and sense of initiative.
  • Excellent social and communicative competencies and customer oriented. Interest in and basic knowledge of aspects of business development/valorisation (e.g IP/patents, basic contracts (CDA, MTA) and market analysis is an important asset.
  • Special interest in applied research and in the maturation of technologies towards industrial applications/products
