Three day workshop in Ghent on Lay Elite Culture in the Middle Ages

Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 September 2019, the Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies at Ghent University hosts an international workshop on ‘The Culture of Lay Elites in the Middle Ages’. The workshop boasts no less than eleven thematic papers by leading experts covering political, religious and literary cultures, a keynote by Sabrina Corbellini (Groningen) and a round table on the state of the art and future directions for the study of medieval lay culture.  There’s also a social programme with visits to several medieval heritage sites in Ghent.

The venue is the ‘Sint-Baafshuis’, Biezekapelstraat 2, 9000 Gent, Belgium. See it on Maps.

The workshop takes place in the framework of the U4-Network of the universities of Ghent, Göttingen, Groningen, Tartu, and Uppsala. It is organised and coordinated by Dr. Claudia Wittig, Marie Curie Fellow at the Pirenne Institute of Ghent University.
