Medieval Seminar Series Lunch Lecture

Please note that this lecture is cancelled due to the COVID-19 (Corona) situation and precautionary measures in Belgium and abroad. We will try to reschedule for autumn 2020 or early 2021.

Tuesday 12 May, 2020 we welcome an in-house specialist for the lunch lecture: Prof. dr. Christoph Anderl (Ghent University, Department of Languages and Cultures) will speak on 'Medieval China? Approaching a disputed concept from the angles of socio-cultural and linguistic interactions along the Silk Roads'.

Prof. Anderl is an expert of Medieval Chinese, and the way it is reflected in Buddhist texts (early vernacular Chinese; Buddhist Hybrid Chinese), including syntax, semantics, and rhetorical devices. He currently focuses on semi-vernacular texts among the famous medieval Dūnhuáng manuscript material. The lecture fits the specific aim of the Pirenne Institute to broaden the scope of medieval studies, (far) beyond the Latin west.
