Evening lecture with Mariken Teeuwen on the medieval 'Ghent' manuscripts of Martianus Capella

Tuesday February 12th at 20:00, In Monte Blandinio organizes an evening event with a lecture by Prof. Mariken Teeuwen (Huygens ING, Utrecht University) on medieval manuscript copies of the fifth-century text on the Seven Liberal Arts by Martianus Capella (De nuptiis Philologiae et Mercurii). At least two copies of this fascinating text were in the possession of the St-Peters abbey in Ghent in the eleventh century. Using these manuscripts and other Ghent manuscripts that contain copies of (late) antique texts, Prof. Teeuwen will shine a light on the intellectual activity at the abbey and more specifically on the role of world views coming from Roman North Africa in a medieval abbey in the Low Countries. The exact title is ‘Martianus Capella in Gent: laatantiek Afrika in de wereld van het middeleeuwse klooster

Please note that the lecture will be in Dutch. It will take place in the Blandijn building, Auditorium 1 (Jan Broeckx).
