The fifth biennial, international conference of the Society for the Medieval Mediterranean will take place at Ghent University from Monday 10th July to Wednesday 12th July 2017.

The theme of the conference is “Communities, Imaginations and Emotions in the Medieval Mediterranean”. In a period of three days over 100 papers will be presented in parallel sessions, covering all disciplines that study emotions, imaginations and communities in, of and across the Medieval Mediterranean and bringing to the fore a wealth of topics. See all papers here.

The keynotes will be delivered by Professor Marina Rustow (Princeton), 'The Cairo Geniza and the Middle East’s Archive Problem', and by Professor Nikolas Jaspert (Heidelberg), 'Mobility, Mediation and Transculturation in the Medieval Mediterranean.
