On Friday 21 April 2023 (12.3O - max. 14.00, Blandijn Building, 3rd floor, Lecture Room 'Camelot') the Pirenne Institute hosts its third interdisciplinary lunch lecture session with two speakers: Anke Lenssens (Comparative Languages & Cultures: Slavic Studies), 'Freising en de Slaven onder bisschop Abraham Een op tekst gebaseerde benadering van christelijke missie en pastorale zorg onder de Karantanen in de tiende eeuw’ and Catherine Rosbrook (History) 'Sordium exteriorum attactum. Attempts to Distinguish Monastic Space in Tenth Century Lotharingia'.

Presentations will be in Dutch and English.

Speakers

Anke Lenssens is doctoraatsstudent aan de Vakgroep Talen en Culturen (Oost-Europese Talen en Culturen) van de Universiteit Gent sinds januari 2021. Haar onderzoek focust zich op de missiegeschiedenis van Karantanië, met onderzoeksinteresses in vroegmiddeleeuwse geschiedenis, kerkgeschiedenis, Slavische taalkunde en vroegmiddeleeuwse schrijfcultuur. Haar huidige project heet “Freising en de Slaven onder bisschop Abraham. Een op tekst gebaseerde benadering van de christelijke missie en pastorale zorg onder de Karantanen in de 10de eeuw".

Catherine Rosbrook is a third-year doctoral candidate in the History Department at Ghent University. She is currently working under Prof. Dr. Steven Vanderputten on a project funded by the Research Foundation of Flanders entitled 'The Quest for Otherness. Uncovering Narratives of Religious Distinction in the Long Tenth Century'.
