HPIMS Autumn School 2018 (Medieval Philosophy) in retrospect

(16-10-2018) 2018 HPIMS Autumn School a success

The 2018 HPIMS Autumn School on Medieval Philosophy (Latin West, Byzantine Empire, Islamicate World) again attracted a good audience! This year, our Institute has the pleasure of hosting no less than 19 PhD- and MA-students from all over Europe, as well as 7 lecturers and lots of colleagues stopping by. It was a pleasure to have you all in Ghent!

The Autumn School consisted of four days, 16th-19th October, during which participants were able to combine plenary sessions with interactive workshops. Of course, there was also be some time for the participants to discover the wonderful medieval heritage the city of Ghent has to offer. For example, the organisers took the participants to see the partially restored Mystic Lamb painting by Jan and Hubert Van Eyck ("The Ghent Altarpiece"). A masterpiece and a pictorial representation of fifeenth-century philosophy and piety!

Lots of thanks to the participants, the scientific committee, the funders and especially to Dr Martine De Reu, for running the school and making everyone feel welcome!

Keep an eye on our event page for next year's edition.
