Two-day workshop focusing on civic integration trajectories and the role of history in this, examining both policy, teaching and reception.

This workshop examines the role of history education in civic integration programs across Europe and how this shapes ideas of citizenship, belonging, and social inclusion.

As migration and integration remain central political and social themes, civic integration programs have become a key instrument through which states communicate values, norms and identifications to newcomers. Yet, the role of history education within these programs remains underexplored.

The workshop addresses therefore timely questions about what newcomers want to know about these histories, how states use historical narratives to define community boundaries, foster belonging, or exclude certain groups and on what newcomers want to know.
