Ben De Groeve

Biography

I obtained a master degree in Biology (2013), and in Environmental Sanitation and Management (2015) at Ghent University. So how did I get here? I graduated with a master thesis surrounding the promotion of meat reduction, which inspired me to apply for a PhD fellowship in the field of persuasive communication (with the well-appreciated support of my promotors). In 2017, I obtained a grant from the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) to examine how meat reduction can be promoted.

PhD Project

In 2017, I obtained a grant from the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) to start my PhD project (two terms of two years). My research revolves around the promotion of meat-reduced diets, which has been identified as an effective measure to tackle multiple sustainability issues. The aim of my research is to inquire message framing based on social identity processes as a strategy to promote meat-reduced diets. To reach this aim, I will use online survey questionnaires, and I will manipulate framing strategies by using advertisements.
