CIMS-member Alexander De Man successfully defends his PhD

On July 4, CIMS-member Alexander De Man successfully obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Sciences, Film Studies, and Visual Culture at the Department of Communication Sciences of Ghent University (CIMS) and the Department of Communication Studies of the University of Antwerp (ViDi). At KASKCinema, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled Producing Difference: The Cultural Politics of Diasporic Cinema in Flanders (2002-2022), which disentangles the institutional, industrial, and socio-cultural dynamics surrounding contemporary diasporic film production. This research was conducted under the supervision of prof. Daniel Biltereyst and prof. Gertjan Willems.
The jury members were Prof. Myria Georgiou (LSE), Prof. Kevin Smets (VUB), Prof. Sarah Van Leuven (chair, UGent), Prof. Sofie Van Bauwel (UGent), and Prof. Frederik Dhaenens (UGent).
