New publication on journalism fiction as metajournalistic discourse in Flanders
(27-11-2024)
CJS-researcher Maxine De Wulf Helskens published a new paper in the renowned journal Journalism Studies. She utilized a diary-interview approach to study how general Flemish audiences make sense of journalism fiction movies and series produced in different media systems. She found that audiences adopt a disctint American discourse when discussing journalism fiction pointing to an overarching journalism discourse. At the same time, they also differentiated between American and European fiction, viewing the latter as less sensationalized and more nuanced. Moreover, the interpretation of the series varied significantly based on participants’ media profiles.
