Prof. Stijn Joye Joins Panel on Media Attention and Invisible Wars
(12-05-2026)
On Tuesday 26 May, CJS-member Prof. Dr. Stijn Joye will take part in Oorlog Buiten Beeld, a public panel discussion (Dutch) at the Hannah Arendt Institute in Mechelen.
The debate explores why some conflicts dominate the news while others remain largely unseen, and how media practices, proximity, and audience engagement shape public attention. Drawing on his research into international news coverage and the representation of humanitarian crises, Prof. Joye will reflect on how suffering is made visible or invisible in the media.
The panel is moderated by foreign correspondent Koen Vidal and includes journalist Tine Danckaers (MO*) and policy officer and author Sandrine Ekofo.
