Former visiting professor dr. Eric Van Heesvelde passed away

(23-01-2019) Sadly we have to report that former visiting professor dr. Eric Van Heesvelde, honorary associate professor of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, passed away on 20 January 2019.

Prof. dr. Eric Van Heesvelde was born in Deinze on September 13, 1946.

He obtained a Licentiate degree in Law on 7 July 1972.

On April 1, 1974, Prof. Dr. Eric Van Heesvelde joined the Department of Communication Sciences at the former University of Ghent as an assistant. On April 1, 1977, he temporarily resigned to take up the position of legal adviser elsewhere.

From 1 October 1998, he returned to Ghent University as a visiting professor at the Department of Communication Sciences. In the same department he was appointed as a lecturer on 1 October 2000 and on 1 October 2008 as a senior lecturer. He was head of the research group for media & ICT (now imec-mict-UGent) at the Department of Communication Sciences from 2007-2008. With great passion he combined this position with his function as Chairman of the Council at the BIPT (Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunication) and his function as chairman of the European Regulatory Group and Independent Regulatory Group.

On 1 October 2011, honorable dismissal was granted to Prof. Dr. Eric Van Heesvelde as a result of his retirement.
