RESEARCH - GDPR: to what extent do organizations comply with the current privacy legislation?

(15-05-2018) A new European privacy legislation (GDPR) will be applied in 10 days, but to what extent do organizations comply with the current privacy legislation?

More than half of the researched organizations do not comply with current guidelines regarding the right to data access.

UGent research with 220 processors of personal data (companies, associations, ...) shows that more than half (51.8%) does not respond to the request for data access. As many as 67 organizations provide access without any form of identity control.

In some cases, up to 14 e-mails had to be sent or up to 10 euro had to be paid, before the data were forwarded. The research shows that compliance with Art. 10. § 1 of the current privacy legislation remains a dead letter and organizations will start with a large gap to the GDPR requirements.
