Frederik De Grove is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences at Ghent University, Belgium. He teaches a course in Digital Methods (Ba3) and co-teaches the courses Encyclopedia of Communication Sciences (Ba2) and Current Aspects of Journalism (Ma). He successfully defended his PhD in Communication Sciences in December 2014 (Ghent University). In his doctoral research, he explored peoples’ social networks and motivations in relation to everyday media use. Specifically, he was interested in how to approach these relations methodologically and empirically.

Currently, his interests and expertise lie in the methodological aspects of communication research and how they relate to new media and journalism topics. He is fascinated by the process and consequences of the computational turn in the social sciences. Furthermore, he is project-coordinator GOA project NewsDNA (2018 – 2022). The main goal of this project is to promote news diversity through algorithmic development.
