Katrien Symons holds masters degrees in Sociology (2004) and Sexology (2006) from the Catholic University of Leuven. In 2014 she attained her PhD in Sociology at Ghent University.

Her research interests are focused around sexual health and behavior in young people, sexual violence, online and offline problem behavior, prostitution, and parental mediation of internet use. Currently she works part-time at the Higher Institute for Family Studies (Odisee) where she instructs students on doing research on the topic of partner violence and where she mentors students in writing their bachelor thesis.

Katrien is employed part-time at mict, where she works on the valorization of survey data that were gathered among parents who have been involved in an international child abduction case.
