Rojava: A utopia in the Syrian chaos is the second movie screened in the framework of the Moviemiento film festival, a series of four documentaries and/or political films dealing with issues of resistance and uneven distribution in the Global South organized by the Department of Conflict & Development Studies (Ugent), Masereelfonds, Vrede VZW and the Kurdish Institute.

Description

In full combat against the Islamic State, and now also Turkish troops and Salafist militias, the Kurdish and other peoples in the North of Syria try to develop an original political project: basic democracy, feminism, secular and ethnic-religious pluralism. A breath of fres air in a hostile and nationalist-religious environment. But will this budding  basic democracy be able to survive?
