On 19 May, our faculty is organising an official welcome event for students participating in the joint VUB-UGent “Bachelor in Social Science” (BScSS) program. All members of the UGent Pol & Soc community interested in learning more about the program are welcome to swing by to meet the students and discuss with colleagues.

  • We begin at 13h00 with welcoming remarks from our vice rector Freddy Mortier. Herwig Reynaert and Sofie Van Bouwel will follow up with a brief introduction and welcome to our faculty.
  • At ca. 13h40 we will move to a reception where will be able to meet with UGent staff participating in the program, discuss future courses as well as research, and learn about student services.
  • Starting from 14h45, we will divide into three groups for three different tours of Ghent (BScSS students only). The first will be an "alternative" walking tour of Ghent highlighting how the city has been shaped by a history of social and political struggle. The second group will visit the Museum of Industry, Labor and Technology for an exhibition about child labor. The third will visit "The Krook.”

After 17h00, the students will have the opportunity to explore the city on their own
