Sarton Chair awarded to Karin Knorr Cetina

(18-11-2019) The Sarton Chair for History of Science is this academic year held by Prof. Dr. Karin Knorr Cetina.

Prof. Dr. Karin Knorr Cetina has received multiple awards for her work on knowledge, science and epistemology, which has, among others, been published in two highly influential books: The Manufacture of Knowledge (Pergamon, 1981) and Epistemic Cultures: How the Sciences Make Knowledge (Harvard University Press, 1999). On the basis of extensive sociological and anthropological research in different labs, she has analyzed the social and material conditions that make the production of knowledge possible. In her more recent research, she focuses on the relation between the new media and the ‘knowledge society’. Karin Knorr Cetina is Chair of the Department of Sociology of the University of Chicago (USA).
