Alberto Maresca

Alberto Maresca is a PhD Candidate in Political Science at Ghent University, as a UNU-CRIS Fellow and BOF Scholarship recipient. His doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Dr. Dries Lesage, examines how Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela navigate multipolarity and South–South relations through the lenses of Foreign Policy Analysis and International Political Economy. The project develops the concept of multipolar autonomy to analyze the foreign policies of ‘Pink Tide’ governments toward Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.


Alberto holds a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, a Master’s in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Diplomatic School of Spain, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and International Relations from the University Federico II of Naples. Professionally, he worked on EU-Latin America relations at the European External Action Service, and completed an internship at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C. He was also a Professor and advisor for Research and Professional Development the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy, his country of origin.
