Chih-Huan Chen
Chih-Huan Chen is a PhD researcher at the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies. His doctoral research focuses on the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), with particular attention to the Union’s response to external threats in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
He holds a BA in French and an MA in European Studies from Tamkang University (Taiwan), where his thesis examined the EU’s counter-terrorism intelligence sharing under the Free Movement of Persons. During his studies, he worked for three years as a part-time research assistant, focusing on EU political institutions, CFSP, EU’s internal security, counter-terrorism, international security, and EU-China relations.
After completing military service, he worked as a journalist and editor at Duowei News (Taipei office), covering international affairs and reporting from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan (Republic of China). He later returned to academia as a full-time research assistant, contributing to several scholarly book projects, including 瑞典挪威史 (A History of Sweden and Norway), 英國脫歐與歐洲統合 (Brexit and European Integration), IS 的組織結構:人物、理論與運作 (The Structure of the Islamic State: Key Figures, Theories, and Operations), and 圖解歐洲聯盟 (An Illustrated Guide to the EU). He has also contributed to several academic conference papers and dozens of policy briefs for the National Security Agency.
