Meet the PhD Jury Activity: Sexual Violence and Sexual Consent - Conceptual Challenges Addressed, lecture by prof. Peterson, Indiana University

Although sexual victimization and perpetration have received a lot of scientific and media attention in the past decade, especially due to the #MeToo movement, measuring sexual perpetration and victimization remains a tricky business. Researchers have relied on different definitions of sexual violence.
These differences, however, lead to considerable variation among the studies and affect the conclusions that can be drawn about the extent of the problem. Similarly, sexual consent presents conceptual challenges. Yet, 'consent' forms the basis for many assault prevention educations, policies and legislations.
During this lecture, prof. Peterson will address the measurement of sexual perpetration and victimization, and will talk about distinctions among nonconsensual sex, coerced sex, and unwanted sex. Prof. Peterson is a clinical psychologist at Indiana University with research expertise in sexual consent, sexual violence, sexual coercion and unwanted sex.
