Special Climate Act for Belgium

Center for Environmental and Energy Law participates in drafting a Special Climate Act for Belgium

In the course of 2018, a group of lawyers specializing in environmental and constitutional law studied climate governance in Belgium. Several researchers of the Center for Environmental and Energy Law of Gent University were involved.
Building on this research and taking into account the important and current expectations in society, they have drafted a climate law bill. The proposal concerns a special act that aims to strengthen the coordination of climate policy between the federal government and the federated entities of Belgium and to set the long-term and ambitious climate policy objectives.

The proposal was immediately picked up by a series of parliamentarians from different parties. A special parliamentary committee was already set up to consider it (
On 12 February 2019, the deliberations will start with, among other things, a hearing with the academic team.
