Nicky Broeckhoven

Nicky Broeckhoven graduated in 2008 as Master of Laws at the University of Antwerp. During the final year of her law studies, she participated in the European Exchange Program Erasmus at the University of Trier in Germany. In 2009 she obtained the degree of LL.M. in Environmental law at Ghent University.

From September 2009 till March 2011, she was a full-time researcher at the Department of Public Law. There she worked on the research project "Environmental Law Enforcement: a Comparison of Practice in the Criminal and the Administrative Tracks” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luc Lavrysen and Dr. Carole Billiet.

Since March 2011, she was conducting PhD-research at the Department of Public International Law, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. An Cliquet (supervisor) and Prof. Dr. Frank Maes (co-supervisor). Her research focused on the role of gender in the conservation of biodiversity and in climate change from a legal perspective.

Nicky Broeckhoven defended her PhD successfully on June 30, 2017.
