Liesbeth Todts

Biografie

Liesbeth Todts  is professor Administrative Law at Ghent University, where she teaches ‘Administrative Law’ (Bestuursrecht), ‘Advanced Administrative Law’ (Verdiepend Bestuursrecht), and ‘Belgian Public Law’ (Belgisch Publiekrecht).

Her research focusses on the question of ‘Administrative Law and Sustainability’ (Duurzaam Bestuursrecht), from which new research in administrative law is initiated. This research line aims to provide insights into how we can ensure administrative law is ‘sustainable’, also for future generations, implying a dynamic legal framework able to effectively address current societal developments and challenges, taking into account the increasing internationalisation and Europeanisation. Themes addressed in this research line include:

  • The expanding scope of government responsibilities, with a particular focus on the role of local governments;
  • The increasing administrative enforcement;
  • The digitalization of administrative law;
  • The influence of European (human rights) law on administrative law.

Within these topics, she has already published extensively, both nationally and internationally, and is frequently invited as an expert.

In addition, she is a member of various international and national networks and committees in the field of public law.

Finally, she is affiliated with several highly regarded journals in public and administrative law (e.g. Tijdschrift voor Gemeenterecht, Tijdschrift voor Bestuurswetenschappen en Publiekrecht, Administratieve Rechtsbibliotheek, etc.).
